I’m sure that you already run your imaging session, it might last all night, capturing loads of data that will need processing. However, all that data is likely on your imaging machine, maybe a SeeStar, an AsiAir, or a computer dedicated to capturing images.
There’s only one copy
What I’ve done in the past is connect the SeeStar to my laptop via usb, or taken the SD card from my AsiAir, connected that to my laptop, it show up as a drive then I have to copy all that data across to my laptop and get it into my library of images that I have taken in the past. Sound familiar? This process can take a while to run, and if you have multiple telescopes, it takes even longer.
Here’s where AstroCollector steps in. Connect your Laptop to your telescope. I have a travel router and use that, it’s great at star parties. Have AstroCollector running on the laptop, and start the scope off taking images, no change so far.
As the telescope takes the images and saves them, AstroCollector monitors the telescope, when it detects a new image, it will copy it from your telescope over the network ready onto your processing laptop ready for you to do the post capture processing.
It does this all night long, so it doesn’t matter if the network is slow, as it has all night to copy the images. It only takes a few seconds to copy one image, so the software can keep up with deep sky sessions without a problem.
